FAQ

Quick answers

The questions we actually get, with the fixes that actually work. Not covered here? Email us or join Discord.

Some bubbles were skipped, or the translation looks wrong

First check the source language. Offline translation reads the page in a specific language, and auto-detect can guess wrong on stylized lettering. Set it explicitly under Settings → Translation → Source language (or the same row in the browser's translate menu), then translate the page again. For a single stubborn bubble, tap it in the reader and choose Retry Translation.

I bought pages or Pro, but the balance did not update

Open Settings → Restore purchases first — that resolves most cases. If the balance is still missing, force-quit and reopen the app. Still missing? Email us with the rough purchase time; every purchase is recoverable and we answer all of these.

The offline model download is slow or stuck

The offline pack is over 1 GB, so the first download takes a while on slow connections. It resumes automatically — leave the app open on the download screen. If it stalls for more than a few minutes, toggle Wi‑Fi and reopen the app; the download continues where it stopped.

How do I enable the Safari extension?

iOS only allows this from system settings: open Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions → Sumi, turn it on, and allow it on the sites you read. Then tap the puzzle-piece (or ᴀA) icon in Safari's address bar to run Sumi on the open page.

Auto-translate stopped partway through a chapter

Flip the Auto switch off and on to restart the queue, or tap the Sumi ball to translate the visible page once. If one specific site keeps stopping, send us the URL — sites change their readers and we patch them individually.

What counts as a page? What is free?

Cloud translation costs one page credit per translated page — you get a welcome balance, a daily claim, and Pro includes 1,500 pages each billing month. Offline translation is free and unlimited once the model pack is downloaded; it never touches your page balance.

Which sites and files work?

Any site you open yourself in the in-app browser or Safari — Sumi translates the images already on the page and never stores them. For your own files, import CBZ/ZIP, PDF, or EPUB from the Files app. Sumi does not host or provide manga.

I want a refund

App Store purchases are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, but email us first — if something did not work, we would rather fix it or make it right directly, and we usually can.

Web subscriptions (mangasumi.com) are refunded by us. Email hello@mangasumi.com within 3 days of a charge and we refund it, as long as you have used no more than 10% of your plan's monthly pages since that charge — 150 on Pro, 400 on Pro+, 1,200 on Studio. A payment-processing fee of up to 6% may be deducted. The subscription ends the moment the refund is issued. Outside that window we still make it right when Sumi did not deliver what you paid for — just write to us.
