Translate manga offline, right on your iPhone.
No signal, no uploads: Sumi’s on-device mode translates your manga entirely on the iPhone or iPad and re-types the translation right into the art. It is temporarily off the shelf while we rework it — see the note below. Cloud translation keeps working everywhere.

No signal needed
Translation runs on your iPhone or iPad, so it works on a plane, on the subway, or anywhere with no Wi-Fi.
Nothing leaves your device
On-device translation means your pages are never uploaded to a server — unlike browser tools that send every image to the cloud.
Coming back
The offline pack is paused while we rework it. When it returns you will see it here and in the app first; cloud translation is unaffected in the meantime.
Seamless in the art
Sumi erases the original text and re-typesets the translation in place — vertical Japanese included. Tap any bubble to fix a line.
Offline translation, answered
Can I translate manga offline?+
Not right now. On-device offline translation is temporarily off the shelf while we rework it. Cloud translation still works on iPhone, iPad and Mac — 15 free pages plus 5 more every day you check in.
Is offline translation unlimited?+
While the offline pack is paused, translation runs in the cloud: 15 free pages plus 5 more every day you check in, then Sumi Pro from $6.99/month or page packs from $1.99. Readers who bought the offline buy-out earlier keep it via Restore Purchases.
Is my manga uploaded anywhere when I translate offline?+
No. With on-device translation everything stays on your iPhone or iPad. (If you choose cloud translation for higher quality, the page is sent to Sumi’s servers only to translate it, then returned.)
Does offline translation work on Mac?+
On-device offline translation is on iPhone and iPad today. The Mac app translates through Sumi cloud with page credits — the offline model pack stays on iPhone and iPad for now.
What can I import?+
PDF, ZIP, CBZ, EPUB, photos, and folders — manga and ebooks alike. On iPad you can drag chapters straight in from the Files app.
