How to delete your Sumi account and the data attached to it — with or without signing in

This page explains how to delete a Sumi account and the data attached to it. You do not need to be signed in to read it, and you do not need an account to make a request. It applies to the Sumi apps for iPhone / iPad and Android, the Safari, Chrome and Firefox extensions, and the mangasumi.com website — they all use the same Sumi account.

1. If you can sign in: delete the account yourself
In the iPhone or iPad app
- Open Settings and tap your account at the top.
- Choose Delete account and data.
- Read the three points on that screen, choose Delete account, then confirm.
On the website — also the way to do it from the Android app or a browser extension
- Sign in at mangasumi.com.
- Open Settings → Security.
- Choose Delete account, then confirm.
The deletion runs immediately and cannot be undone. It signs the account out everywhere. If you used Sign in with Apple, we also revoke Sumi's authorization with Apple. Cancel any subscription that Apple or Google bills first if you want it stopped — deleting the account does not cancel it (see What we cannot delete for you).
2. If you cannot sign in, or never made an account
Email privacy@mangasumi.com with the subject Delete my data, and tell us which of these applies:
- You had an account — write from the address the account uses, or name that address. We may ask you to confirm from it before we delete anything; that check exists so nobody can delete someone else's account.
- You only bought something — give us the Google Play order number (Play Store → Payments and subscriptions → Budget and order history) or the Apple order ID from your App Store receipt. That is what lets us find the purchase record.
- You never signed in and never bought anything — then the only thing we hold is the app's random identifier and the page records attached to it. Nothing in it names you, and we have no way to look it up from an email address. On Android, uninstalling the app ends the collection. On an iPhone or iPad, deleting the app ends the collection too, although iOS keeps the identifier in the device's Keychain for a later reinstall. Write to us anyway if you would like the records removed and can tell us roughly when and where the install was used.

3. What deleting the account removes
Deleting a Sumi account deletes, at once and permanently:

What it does not touch: the pages on an iPhone or iPad. Pages on the device stay on the device. After the deletion that device is signed out and its pages keep translating; they cannot be copied into another account. That device also cannot claim free pages with a newly created account — this stops the same device from collecting welcome and daily pages again by signing up over and over. The pages already on it keep working. The offline buy-out stays with the Apple Account that bought it.
4. What we cannot delete for you
- Store records. Apple, Google and Stripe each keep their own record of a transaction under their own privacy policies and their own legal retention duties. We cannot delete those. Use Apple's data and privacy tools, Google's My Activity, or write to the provider directly.
- Live subscriptions. A subscription billed by Apple or Google keeps billing until you cancel it in that store. Deleting the Sumi account does not cancel or refund it. Cancel in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions (the app's deletion screen links there), or in Play Store → Payments and subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Product emails you subscribed to. Unsubscribing is separate from deleting the account: use the unsubscribe link in any of those emails, or ask us by email.
- Share links and feedback. Before-and-after images and PDFs you shared as links are not attached to your account, and neither is feedback you sent from the iPhone or iPad app. Email us the link, or tell us roughly when you sent the feedback, and we remove it.
5. What we keep after a deletion, and why
These survive a deletion. None of them carries your name, your email address or your manga pages:
- Records of App Store purchases — transaction, product, amount, time, where the purchase was credited, and whether it was refunded. Their link to your account is replaced by a one-way code. They are what a refund or a chargeback is reconciled against, and what stops a purchase from being credited twice.
- A device's own page records — an iPhone's or iPad's balance and its charges, filed under the app's random identifier, not under your account.
- An audit line for account link and unlink operations, kept to investigate fraud against the page ledger.
- Usage statistics — the app's product events, filed under the app's random identifier, and the account events and daily page-limit records, filed under the account's id.
- Anonymous counters — per-install request counts that exist to stop a runaway bill. They carry no identity and no request content.
We never keep the manga pages themselves. A page sent for translation is discarded as soon as the translation is returned. The text read from it and its translation are kept for up to 30 days under a fingerprint of the image, never under your account, and a short-lived per-page key makes sure re-translating the same page does not charge you twice.
6. On the device
- iPhone / iPad — deleting the account signs the device out; its library, its own pages and the offline buy-out stay. Uninstalling the app removes the library and its settings. To clear the library in place, use Settings → Delete all chapters.
- Android — uninstalling the app removes everything it stored: imported chapters, bookmarks, recent sites, preferences and the install identifier. To clear a single series without uninstalling, use Remove from library.
- Chrome / Firefox extension — Sign out in the extension, or uninstall it, to clear its local data.
7. How long it takes
Deleting the account in the app or in Settings → Security is immediate. If Apple cannot be reached at that moment, we keep retrying the Sign in with Apple revocation for about two weeks. An emailed request is answered by a person, usually within one business day, and acted on within 30 days of us confirming that the request is yours. We will tell you when it is done.
